I have been using Bixpy Jet for the last four years and exploring different mounting options for Hobie kayaks.

I use the same exact rod-holder mount for my Water Snake. It's convenient and effective for installing small electric motors.

Thanks for sharing. I have an Oasis and TI and have been considering a Bixpy motor. It never occured to me that you could mount it using the rod holders. Now you just have to paint the PVC Camo colors!

Hey, I was about to install the same thing for my hobie. I have the J2 motor and have that exact pole and incidentally I was out shopping at home depot yesterday for the same pvc fittings to get this done.

I was going to say that this approach is the best in the event your motor prop gets clogged with kelp/grass etc. Simply lift it up and clean it. It's hard to do that with the rudder mount.
One addition I'd do is that I'd coat the conduit clamp with flex seal to prevent the pole from twisting around.

Pretty neat idea for mount location.  Is there any concern about the torque created by the motor and subsequent deformation of plastic around the rod holder area?

yes. people used to do this with trolling motors and they would put them across both rod holders instead, as it started to stress the plastic out at the rod holder with just one (the blue and yellow kayaks specifically showed white stress marks)  i will try to find the pics i saved a few years back when i was considering this

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of trolling motors they were using that they had to put it across two rod holders.

This design concept has been around for many years and I didn't find any stress issues.  As an engineer, I am not too worried about the rod holder area.  I think the weakest link is PVC pipe and it would fail before the rod holder.

I am going to wait until I upgrade my kayak to 2020+ Hobie Oasis.  I think I will get a bright color one.
