Buddy and I will be heading north on /around the 10th of August. Any local poop on swell/weather or wind, much appreciated. Oh, and of course  any fish?

TIA

Me too!  Got invited to join a Group Campsite in early August at Jughandle.  Seems like Van Damme would have easy access from HWY1, but never launched there yet (surf-fishing only).  Day-use from Albion would probably be good too.

Anyone else have any decent (safe launches)?

All of these are easy to access - Van Damme is usually a mellow launch( Free, too). Russian Gulch is easy/mellow but has a fee. Caspar Cove is also usually mellow and free to launch. These are all sheltered during normal swell direction.

Yes actually.  I have fished the area both before and after the big tournament. North and south of albion proper.   I launch from the beaches and have done well on a variety of rockfish and small keeper lings. slow trolling big swim baits has been my ticket.   When the wind picks up too much, I went to Van Damm as it is sheltered. More sub keeper lings and cabs, some medium rockfish, blacks, gopher, etc.  There i did best jigging metal with a single shrimp fly attached to the eye.  No bottom hook.  Less snags.  I likely will return in the next couple days.

Other launching options would be at Noyo north jetty (watch for boat traffic) or MacKerricker on a flat day.

MacKerricher has a steep beach (rip!) which is often close-outs. If your game is top tier or you’re a local who can watch it often and strike at the right time, it’s a good spot. Noyo is good, but can have lots more traffic, in the lane and on the water, so increased pressure overall in some areas.

August 11, will be close to Ft. Ross and will either try Timber Cove, Stillwater Cove, or Ocean Cove through Saturday. Sunday, heading north to Albion if conditions allow a launch, otherwise will probably show up at Van Damme. Base is in Little River. Fished Russian Gulch and Casper Cove last time I was up there. May try them again on Monday. Maybe Noyo on Tuseday?

Thanks to all for the intel.

Hope to see some of you guys OTW.

I'll keep 68 on for ya.
