Hey gang, I'm considering getting a good used Prius. Question is, I have a very steep gravel driveway and am worried a Prius won't make it up the hill. Any advice?

Find someone with the same make and model prius and give it a go.  I would do it but I'm not coming through any time soon.

If you do buy a prius make sure you get a cat guard installed.  It takes less than a minute to cut one and they are expensive to replace and hard to obtain in a reasonable amount of time.

I've been driving Prius for ~15 years, have yet to find anything they can't do, I even pulled two jet skis for about a year (I don't recommend that) so If I can pull 2 jet skis up a steep ramp...you should be able to get up your driveway.  The DC motor has incredible torque.

is your driveway paved or loose gravel?

i had a prius V for nearly a decade, that thing could make it far more places than i thought.
my street has 200yds of 24%, its pavement, but even when soaking wet there's no issue.

what kinds of vehicles do get up your driveway?  if other front wheel drive cars go up without a problem, i wouldnt worry about a prius having problems.  like bbt95762 said, they have lots of torque so they overcome steep inclines without problem.  maybe if the gravel is a problem you would need to put different tires on it?
good luck!

We've had a Prius V for 6 years. Your biggest concern with gravel is spinning out and the Prius is strong enough to get itself up this hill, albeit slowly. I find I spin out on gravel much more in my 5.0 F150 than I do in the Prius.
I recently purchased an AI with a trailer on this forum. I added a hitch and wiring harness to the Prius and have no problem towing. I took the trailer, 2 kayaks, and some gear (probably 500-800 lbs) to the eastern Sierra just over a week ago and went over Carson and Monitor passes with no problem!

We have two Prii and I haul multiple kayaks on one one of them, either on top or with a trailer, sometimes both.  Power and hills are not a problem. Gravel could be an issue if it is steep driveway.  It depends upon the condition of the driveway.

My only problems have been with clearance.  My Prius is low to the ground and bottoms out easily.  I can't take it on beach at Trinidad, but that's no biggie, I park up top.  There are other roads I avoid because of the pot holes or large rocks.  (The road down the south spit @ Humboldt Bay).

I echo what Crash said about a Cat-shield.  We got them for both Prii.

Some1 at my last work got their catalytic converter stolen out of our parking lot! Humboldt tweakers...

Just need an angle grinder/saw and a uncontrollable urge to get your next fix I guess.
