Hi All,
I just installed the Rad Sports Kayak Hoist (125lbs weight limit) in my garage for the PA12.  Damn it was so hard to pull the rope to get the kayak up 8 feet.  Very difficult for one person to use.
What do you recommend for one person to operate the hoist, so my wife does not get mad that she has to help me.    :smt001

I'm not sure how that particular hoist works, but maybe you could mount an additional pulley (like a climbing pulley) somewhere to use physics to your advantage.

I've been using this one, works great, no issues, I need to help keep it level as it goes up

I use harken too. I load it probably 120lb. I typically pull it using my body weight, and I would say it’s medium difficulty.
Notice that I reconfigured the system, and it’s no longer as per the installation instructions. But same physics

Just brainstorming here: Could you splice a length of wider diameter rope to the end of what came with it, then run the wider rope through some more blocks, maybe just a change in the angle you'r pulling will help (or tie it to the back of your car (visions of pulling the ceiling down)!), or as mentioned above, add some mechanical advantage.

Just a thought but you could add in a trailer winch, manual or electric would work.  Just have to mount it far enough off the wall so the handle will clear on the manual.  I have drug quite a bit of weight onto trailers with one of these.   Just put the rope on the spool rather than the strap.

one drawback to the Hobie PA's.

I just keep my PA14 on a wheeled cart. 140-lbs a bit much to tether under rafters. But that boat trailer winch is a good idea.
