I've fished ML a number of times with the latest being recently on a salmon skunk weeks back. The soles fishing has been slow so now I'm interested in trying for ocean halibut sometime but the area is so big it's very overwhelming.
Some exact coordinates would really help  :smt044 :smt044
Where do people generally fish for halibuts, north or south, because they both look fishy.

TIA

I have heard (no direct knowledge) that the "pajaro pipe" is the area to target.  If you look north on nautical charts, there is a sewer pipe that goes out to about 65 FOW outside the pajaro river.  I've heard of butts being targeted here.  Note, about 2 miles offshore from here is the start of the pajaro fingers so if the salmon are close, you can try to target both (still a big day!).

Just curious - I've just known it as pajaro and wonder if it's always been pajaro fingers or just a recent thing?

Great info. On my way back from Mulligan's I once crossed paths with a kayaker who had a big halibut on board and think that it came from that area.

I've only fished for halibut in that area a couple of times and didn't have any luck. But one time as I was returning to the ML harbor from a failed salmon fishing attempt, a commercial guy pulled up beside my kayak and scared the crap out of me. It turned out that he just wanted to tell me that there were halibut north of the jaws in 60 fow. Unfortunately, I didn't have my halibut gear then. So, maybe if you are going to fish the poo pipe, it would be worth trolling along the way...
