Not that I am experienced or anything but I have used from 1/2# all the way to 3oz on my release. Anything over 1/2# gets to be a pain to paddle with (for me at least)

I told work I need two days off. They told me my team can't function without me. My response, I can't function without fishing.

What's the fancy setup for linda mar?

Brian - here's what I use:

Quote
I only troll when the conditions are good - (most likely very early in the morning)

I use a pink lady diver with flashers and a rainbow colored apex.

I had 3 break-offs  in Linda Mar last year - so I will be beefing up my line to 20 # when trolling this time around. And since you will have a lot of line behind you (when trolling)- I suggest paddling a few more strokes once a salmon hits your lure to get a proper hookset. IF you pick up your rod too soon and try setting the hook yourself - you'll likely loose the fish ( I learned the hard way and lost fish this way)

I still prefer mooching - like my teacher (Stuart)    once said...."mooching is like playing cat and mouse"....

If you bat alright out there I'll probably take a stab at it over the weekend after fort ross.

So I need a big ole apex, a dodger and a diver. Sounds easy enough.  What about rotary salmon killers?

watermelon apex!

In response to the weight for trolling. Usually folks say 10% of the line test for monofilament diameter.  So, if you're using 20lb mono-- then roughly a 2lb weight.

I use PowerPro-- so I get 8lb diameter-- which means i end up using about 10-12 ozs.  That's perfectly reasonable, anything heavier than about 1 # and it gets too cumbersome to deal with.
