Hey All,

Just getting started with kayak fishing and trying to piece together all all of the basics, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Malone AirFlow2 Rails - https://www.amazon.com/Malone-AirFlow2-Universal-Crossrail-System/dp/B06XK7KSHB/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

I'm planning on getting a Hobie Outback or Compass and am debating if it's necessary to get a more expensive thule/yakima setup or going with a more budget option like this would be fine. I'd plan on pairing these with rack pads on a 2021 Crosstrek.

Any insight greatly appreciated!

I installed Malones on the family Honda Odyssey.  They've handled a Yakima Box stuffed with duffle bags and on a rare occasion, I've had my Revo13 up there.  Literature says the max load for the Honda is around 160lbs.

I would verify Subaru's weight limits for their racks though.  I seem to recall that back in the day, at least one member had a catastrophic OEM Subaru rack failure while in transit.  Honestly, I trust Yakima or Thule standalone systems more than OEM car racks.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely stay away from the OEM Subaru bars and opt for something more substantial.

I second this. I don't have experience with Subaru, but the oem rack on our Honda Pilot leaves a lot to be desired. I haven't used their roof top racks, but the couple of bike racks from Malone I've used were sturdy and worked well for me.

I believe it was the shitty factory bars that come on the Outbacks that can detach from the car.  Not only can they detach, flat bars were super flimsy and can bend.  I believe the Crosstrek has rails mounted to the car and if thats the case, this Malone rack set looks very similar to what is offered by Thule or Yakima.

Thank you all for the feedback, I decided to go ahead with the Malone bars and will be installing them soon. I would have been interested in Thule Aeroblades but already purchased these ones, but I appreciate the offer though!
