I've been (barely) helping my buddy build a jon boat and we just got it ready for the water. He's a really clever craftsman and this has been a real challenge but super fun. Found a screaming deal on a 15 hp. It's build to be able to beach launch and still cover good ground. We both surf heaps and will fish it obviously too. First two big trips lined up are Shelter and Baja but going to do a maiden in SC harbor to work out any kinks. Can't wait to get it in the water!

Sweet!  Looks pretty cool!  What material did you use for the build?

It's made with marine grade plywood and heaps of epoxy. We both build surfboards so the glass work is comfortable. It's bombproof. Came out slightly heavier that we had hoped but two of us can still definitely beach launch it. The wheels come off and we add trim tabs to the same place so it will add good stability. We're going to work on bottom contours after we do some trials.
Can easily carry two people, two surfboards and four poles.
Under the seat is decent dry storage and the front is an anchor/rope box.
Bought a second carberator and can give it 20 hp if needed. Should blast through calm conditions. Will be bumpy on chop.
Gives kayak-like access to some special places and good range.

Super cool!

Interesting coincidence, been watching some documentaries and other videos of the hand made dories that launch and land on the beach in Pacific City. Those are simple, small, light, flat bottom boats. Made a quarter scale rowing dory as a kid with my stepdad and I could see taking on a motorized version in the garage at some point once my current projects are completed.

Congratulations on getting it done and ready to take out and enjoy!
