Three of us launched a bit late, hitting the water around 7:45.  Water was nice and smooth - and very warm - and very little wind.  Paddling out towards the red bouy I get a call from Etienne, who's already there filling up on live bait.  After a short stop all four of us headed to the kelp beds in front of Cannery Row.

We fished here for quite a while, getting nada.  Etienne finally caught something just as I decided to head NW to try the area in front of MBK (I'll let him fill in his part of the report).  The kelp beds were full of seals, which I'm sure had something to do with the crappy bite.  :smt013

Three of us headed to the open water in front of MBK, dropping here and there with no joy.  I finally hooked a decent gopher on my way to the orange can, and though maybe our luck was about to change.  Ahahahaha...  :smt009  Not a chance.  Got to the orange bouy and headed a bit further out towards the yellow bouy before giving in to the wind, which had kicked up about 30 minutes earlier.  Let the gopher go to grow bigger, much to his delight, and worked our way in, hitting the launch ramp around 11:45.

Were were met at the ramp by a nice guy with DFG who was doing a survey of the rec fishery, or something like that.  He was taking down everyone's details; how long on the water today, what did we catch (if anything), which areas did we fish in today, how often we fish in Monterey County, etc.  Said it was for some big report encompasing the coastline from Mexico uo thru Canada.

On a side note, two other yak fishermen landed at the same time we did.  One had a nice fat ling...said he'd caught it on a swimbait out near the orange can.   Guess it just wasn't our day today. No I need to figure out what's for dinner, since fish tacos are out.  :smt012
