Checked the wind reports yesterday and saw that it was one of those afternoons you need to accept as a gift and GET OUT THERE! Ran home after work, packed up the gear, and headed out to Doran for some hali drifting outside of the harbor.

I launched at 4:30PM near the base of the Doran Jetty. I paddled out a bit and started throwing the sabiki on my UL. After a couple of casts I got large (10") smelt that I hooked to a 3-way rig and sent down for hali bait as I tried to catch some smaller bait. I spent most of the evening having a blast catching huge smelt on the UL, still trying to make some smaller bait. I took a few breaks from hali drifting to dangle my smelt around the jetty, hoping for a big ling, but there was so much eelgrass on the surface and lettuce underwater that my rig kept getting tangled up so I went back to the UL sabiki fest.

I ended up catching tons of big smelt, a bunch of 12" range mackerel, and a couple of herring, one of which rounded out the evening as my hali bait.

No 'buts, but a big mackerel on every hook of a sabiki makes for a great fight on UL gear!! I'd go back today with just the UL, but I have prior engagements.

There were plenty of tent sites left.

Not very much surf, though!

I arived around 9:30 with the tribe... Lots of work rigging 4 Yaks!!!! Love the trailer :smt007..

I had Family newbies so my plan was to, Launch @ Doran Ramp, catch smelties, drift the Channel to

Lucus and such... Worked perfectly except for catching a Butt.... Did not even bother putting smelties

( Perfect ones @ that 6-8" ) in bait tube, When I needed one, I would just drop sabiki and instant

bait...Smelts,Shinners and some hatchet mouthed things?..entire Harbor :smt003...

Nephews had good time Playing with the Smelties on my UL and nice time on the water :smt003

Got 2 good pull downs behind Lucus Warf area, could have been anything, Butt, I've heard rumors

Of Nice Butts Back there... :smt002

Could be up to go back next week, but kind of want another shot @ Tomalas, Halibut, WSB or

 Threshers!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe hit Tomalas in the morning, Bodega afternoon... :smt004........... Danglin
