I use the Spyderco Salt knives for fishing, and mushroom hunting. Great knives.

Nice looking knife. How do you keep that sawtooth blade sharp?

I also endorse the Spyderco Salt series - my EDC for the last 15 years is a Salt 1 (all silver/stainless version of the one linked) and it is great.  Super durable, grippy handle, and fairly thin so it lays flat in my pocket.  The serrated blade stays ridiculous sharp for a really long time - I've only sharpened it once.  Spyderco will sharpen for the cost of shipping there and back - when I did it about 5 years ago it was about a two week turnaround.  If I ever lose this one, it will 100% get replaced with the closest current Spyderco model.

Blunt tip knifes are the way to go IMHO and should be secured to your PFD (SECURELY) so you can depend on it when you need it.  I really liked the Gerber River Shorty, but it did not last more than a season.  The NRS are nice, but they also rust over time.  Have found a cheap one that also rusts, but is good enough for a season or two: https://www.amazon.com/Scuba-Choice-Diving-Compact-Stainless/dp/B006U9DWVY/ref=sr_1_6?crid=VOQDL2SPULBN&keywords=blunt+tip+dive+knife&qid=1643138524&sprefix=blunt+tip+dive+knif%2Caps%2C158&sr=8-6

It holds well in it's sheath, which uses screws to mount to your PFD not a clip, and it holds the knife securely, requires only one hand to pull out, but a bit of force.

made me wonder if anyone has had an experience to where they needed to cut rope or a line in an emergency situation.

Tell ya a quick story without naming names of a boy and his father out fishing during one of the tournaments that when the father flipped over became entangled in his own leashes while upside down under his kayak.  He had to tell his son to go get a knife from another kayaker because they didn't have one.  Luckily turned out OK.

I once had a handful of Humpback whales begin lunge feeding around me off of Lucia in Big Sur.
One came directly under my yak as I sat at the edge of a kelp bed, and snagged my line.
I had to cut the line before it pulled me over.

Any knife on the PFD is better than none. I get inexpensive dive knives and oil them.

I had a spyderco salt and it was a nice knife up until I dropped it into sf bay.   Now I have two stainless moras.  They are $15, razor sharp, and seem to hold up well as last not as I rinse them after having them in the salt.

Maybe a interesting find someday. I lost a nice spyderco (non fishing, no longer produced) :smt010 searched and searched. Have heard good things of the moras
