Built a storage cart this weekend. Used two Luxor HE38 carts bolted together end to end and two 8' 2x4's. Cut the legs so it's the same height as the bunks on my trailer. No more lifting, just slide it from one to the other. Bunks are 5" apart and fit the keel perfectly. It's super stable and now all my gear is in one space. All I need to do now is add carpet to the bunks.

Very nice. Makes me want to build something like that.

Dang. That's a great idea. The ability to just roll it around. Duh I should have done that ages ago!

Great idea and most likely less expensive than wood and materials for a diy. 🤔😁

My thinking exactly. I had started to price out everything for an all wood cart. With 2x4's at $10-25 per board and casters at $10-15 ea., I started to look around the garage to see what I had on hand.
My tiny 4watt light bulb came on and I realized that I already had everything I needed. These carts have a 400lb capacity each. They are bolted together with eight 1/2" bolts, lock washers and nuts. I did have to remove one caster on opposite connecting corners because they would interfere with each other, so it has 6 locking casters instead of 8, but its still rock solid. The top has a 1/4 lip. I notched those so the 2x4 bunks would lay flat across the top. Used twelve 1-1/2" Lag bolts to secure the bunks to the cart. This thing will last forever. Way lighter than a all wood cart too. I can move it around fully loaded with one hand.

You were smarter than me. I built one about a year ago out of wood. It is a beast; however I purchased really nice casters and so it pushes along well. All said… expensive, heavy yet I did get to customize it a little.

I like your approach to working smarter not harder.  that's gonna save the back for more seat time in the kayak!
