Nah i really am liking these hoops and storing these traps is a pain in the booty!  yeah for just over 60 a pop they should be gone by the end of the weekend!  Merry Christmas!!

This is how the nets have been fishing for me.. we will see how it is now that the traps will all be out and the commercial fleet will be fishing as well, but regardless i cant keep these things around for 11 months just to use them 3 times a year lol!

Copy that, the hoops do kill it, makes me question my own traps… :smt006

I agree Eddie. I've always been a trap guy but boy these hoops are way more efficient for kayak crabbing for sure.
I've thinking of retiring my own traps as well and just sticking to the hoops. Also tired of the poachers too.

You hit it right on the head, Anchovy.  Last year, I found myself babysitting my traps to avoid poachers and I wasn't really fond of loading up for both crabbing and fishing.  I planned to switch to hoops this year before the rule change came about, so it all worked out great.  I have had a lot more enjoyment in "just crabbing" vs trying to hop back and forth between crabbing and reefs.  I don't miss my traps.

We should probably stop inadvertently trying to talk people out of buying Christian's traps, though!!

I've been using the ambush hoops for a few years now and do feel like they are great for kayaking.  But still like to drop a pot once in a while and go fish, which is pretty hard to do with the 2 hour hoop limitation.  Will see if one pot can out fish three hoops this weekend  :smt044

that's ok i have someone coming tomorrow to get them hahahah.  Its bitter sweet, but yeah, hoop nets are kinda really nice lol!! I'm super curious how the trap pressure and commercial pressure will impact things though. Longer soaks with more potent baits that milk slower may really harm us with the hoops.  I'm also pretty sure a bunch of people didn't buy hoops out of principle or cost, and now they are going to be coming out of the woodwork as well.. we will see!!!! Even on a boat the hoops are just so much easier to work... Shameless plug but watch Fisherman's Life's new vid on my boat fishing hoops from a few weeks back.. 1.5 hours and we had 2 limits.
