Got my boat

I just picked up my first kayak. A like new Perception Search 15. It has two built in flush rod holders and came with a paddle. I went straight home and put it in the pool. My dog jumped into the huge tw and we paddled backwards and forwards. I'm going to take it out Monday on the American River to practice. I will see you guys out on the yak fishing scene soon.

Where is discovery?

It is where the american meets the sacramento river,  Discovery Park, has a launch ramp and you can paddle out to the Sacramento and up the American.

 Lots of people fish " The Mouth " because if and when the salmon run, they bunch up there stalling before they head up the American...on a good day.

 They have been catching stripers there, I think on cut bait..sardines ......

 Fishing rivers is not an easy task,  can be quite frustrating too....

  your first time out might be better served on a lake,....Another way to fish the river might be to anchor up or tie off and bait fish..

  I caught my first stripper in the American tied off to the pump house by Howe Ave launch....  Danglin

Anchoring or tying off from a Kayak in current can be dicey if you have little experience please get some advice 1st and don't do it alone.
 

It's worked well for me ,

  but do listen to MickFish advice, he has more experince than I with rivers
