OTW Water filtration

I was curious if anyone has experience with some of the water filtration products that are out there and has any recommendations on water filtration systems. I was intrigued by watching a YouTube video of a guy fishing in the wilderness and had a sort of water filtration bag that could be filled and then directly drank from, filtering the water as you drink it.  I know there are other pumps and straws, and other methods, but curious what people consider a good filtration system they can depend on for camping/backpacking etc. Would be nice to do some boat in camping and not have to bring a bunch of water to drink and cook with.

well. the system you are describing is the Sawyer squeeze.  easy to use..not to expensive.   its a great filter if you dont expect stuff to freeze over.
essential to have open water to dip the bottle into.
backpacking, i prefer a pump system, since i can dip the pickup tube into a seep in a rock crack and pull out unreachable water.

both systems work. 

The filtration bag looks like a easy system, just fill and drink.  Are the pumps easy to use, or require a lot of effort?  The Reverse Osmosis Water Filter type seem good, but looking at the instructions, seems a little complicated.  Any particular products you guys recommend?  I was thinking that if I could be in the middle of a lake and pulling water to drink safely, then no need to carry water out with me?

I like the standard pump models and the Katadyn has been an industry standard for many years.  Many of the parts are serviceable and replaceable and I have been using the same unit with small tweaks for >10 years.

I've used that Katadyn system and it's easy to operate.  You could also use a lifestraw bottle setup if you just want to use it on the yak.  Fill and drink.

After looking at a lot of different options on Amazon, I did stumble across the Katadyn's and they do look better than a lot of the other ones I saw.  Some look too complicated, too many pieces, etc.  These look much better.  Thanks, I think I'll take the "plunge" on a Katadyn, sounds like they are worth the money if they last a long time.
