8/24 Santa Cruz- 6 black rockfish

   Fished out in front of the lighthouse  this morning and early afternoon and caught 5  small and medium black rockfish( biggest was 14 inches)  between  the east buoy and the yellow can, most out a hundred yards  or so from that line. Caught one at the end of the reef  about a mile straight out where there was a lot of bait and 5 or 6 dolphins chasing  around but all I managed was about six under sized black and yellow and gopher not worth keeping.Was hoping for a ling.

not epic, but beats a skunk!

I was walking on the Capitola pier the other day and they had a 40 pound WSB in the cooler, from one of the rental skiffs.  Maybe worth a try.

    A fresh fish dinner for myself and the neighbors and, for all practical intents and purposes, time in a gym in the  company of dolphins with the view and all. Kinda perfect even if you don't hit big.
     A reason why I posted was that I think the lings follow those small schoolie rockfish around, but if there were any there they may have been full to the gills and not interested in much.
     Once in late July 2005  I was a mile out on the reef and couldn't get a jig to the bottom without catching a small or medium rockfish, and keeping at it , came up with a keeper ling and an excellent calico rockfish.Only seen it like that the one day but I haven't spent that much time out there. Last month it was deserted the few times I fished there.
