Now begs the question. If we are attacked from our Kayak can we do the same? I thought they are federally protected.  :smt001

Sovereign immunity.

In any case, it would be beyond nutso if you can't defend yourself against an aggressive shark. If that was the case, then when a shark knocks you into the water, you could get a ticket for punching him in the nose...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

In California, when a shark attacks you it’s a property crime..

It’s been know one the state of California that defending your self from the “average caucasian shark” may cause certain kinds of cancer!

Just saying.

If they are shooting at a submerged shark the bullet looses its energy right away, hence no damage to the shark. Probably why he was still hanging around well after the first shots.

I spent many years at sea doing swim calls like these...  shark watch was always the worst thing to get stuck with.  You got to watch everyone else have fun and you just had to stand there holding the M16.  This video is the only time I've ever heard of them having to discharge a weapon.

But, don't worry, you would have had a ton of fun in other ways.

Yeah, especially with .223 from an M16.  I think the idea is to simply create annoying disturbances so it turns and goes to find something more interesting.  We always joked that the idea was to shoot the slowest swimmer to occupy the shark, though.   :smt044
