You can dodge the crowds on the Merced in the Valley, or find some pull outs in the canyon and cast in relative peace.  I always had good luck with the fly rod and dark woolybuggers.  Despite living in Fresno for 6 years, we avoided Yosemite because of the crowds and when we were there in the winter, there was no fishing....

Good luck.

Troy it's been years since I fished the Valley. When I was into climbing I used to just about lived there. The trout in the Valley are pretty wary, but they probably see more people than the fish at MBA. Most places you will be lucky to catch 1 small fish. The places I used to do well are right behind the downstream side of the bridge pilings in the evening AM didn't produce? The meadows above Mirror Lake hold some nice fish but you need to be super stealthy as it is a really small stream, you can climb up the hill a little or tree and spot the fish in the stream. I know they had plans to take it out so I don't know if it is still there but there was a small dam close to the Park entrance and we did pretty good just below and above it. I always did good on garden hackles and propeller bladed spinners.
