Hi all - one more question from a new Hobie Revo kayak owner :)

I have a VW Tiguan but it doesn't have side bars on the roof where I can connect cross bars. Few questions:
(1) Has anyone purchased cross bars that don't require the side bars (ie the ones that connect inside to the window)? Are they stable and easy to install?
(2) I've watched a ton of YT videos and seems like this set up might work for shorter trips from my friends house in pacifica to LM, rockaway, or HMB? Anyone use these: https://www.amazon.com/WOOWAVE-Universal-Crossbars-Paddleboard-Waterproof/dp/B07XCFQ7LT/ref=asc_df_B07XCFQ7LT/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=385216691882&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2454873616354419268&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031951&hvtargid=pla-834323561163&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=85368089224&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=385216691882&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2454873616354419268&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031951&hvtargid=pla-834323561163

Just trying to find a simple solution that doesn't break the bank (ie less than a few hundred bucks ideally). Thanks as always for the recs!

The link above will work if you don’t plan to use it as often ~ 10 times a year.
There are a handful of reasons you want a solid mount.
If you are into this sport looking into kayaking more often, you will want a solid mount. Thule or Yakima will something to fit your car.

Spend the money.  Go to the Thule site.

Imagine the worst stop you might experience in a year and what happens to your kayak during that stop.  The Thule rack is cheap in comparison.

I have some Yakima Baseline towers I've been looking to get rid of.  Would be willing to let them go for dirt cheap for NCKA folks.  You'd need to buy the "BaseClips" that fit your Tiguan and also crossbars of your liking.  Take a look at the Yakima site and price out bars and Baseclips and see if that might make sense for your budget.  My Baseline Towers were used maybe 4 times... they're basically new.

My local Thule dealer installed two channels/tracks on my vehicle’s roof, Thule has mounts or feet that fit into the channel/tracks

A good bow and stern strap and the cheapest cross bars in China won’t fail in an emergency stop, car topping I always bow and stern strap if I’m going any distance or over 35 mph.

I bought the Yakima Landing Pad 6, which bolts straight into the roof of your car. Yes, you have to drill holes in your car, but it's solid, and you can space them as far as you like.

You also need to remove the headliner from the interior in order to access the sheet metal roof.

I use this for the Tandem Island on my Subaru Outback and highly recommend it. The factory mount points were 30" apart. With my custom job, they are 60" apart, and the boat sits on the car perfectly balanced and stable.
