Best fish/depth finder

Thought I knew a thing or two about FF's, but things have changed so much in the last few years I know I dont know squat now.  Really everything i've owned has been used more as a depth finder and chart plotter rather than a FF.  The only way i've used it is to find structure basically, and never trusted seeing fish icons or whatever my display was trying to show me. 


So are these much much more expensive fish finders worth it, do they really put you on more fish than find structure I guess is the question I have.

I have the Raymarine Element that has quite a few cool features but I mostly just use the regular sonar. One of the chart plotter features is relief shading. I am super happy with it and use it constantly in the ocean. Not much use for it in the bay though. Here is a picture of the chart plotter on my pad:

That chart looks AWESOME!  Wow, I guess I need to look at some new electronics.  I've got two Lorance Mark 4, one standard one DSI, and though they work enough to guide me out and back, man that looks like a whole nother realm of possibilities!

Fancy ocean chart is “platinum overlays” which is 3rd from far right. It’s available on the Platinum + Chart which is $100-$200 depending on coverage.

It’s coverage for ocean stuff, and oddly enough Clear Lake, but I haven’t seen it on other lakes.

I think I am one of the last hold out still using a B&W screen. My Lowrance refuses to die, so I keep using it. More so as I found a RAM to Lowrance adapter for it, and it makes it a whole lot easier to move it round when on the water.

Ha ha! When I bought my Garmin (10+ years ago), it seemed like a big deal to upgrade to color. Now, B&W fishfinders are just about as popular as B&W televisions...
