Shelter Cove yesterday with Bryan and Yaad.  3 Sundays in a row with funky south flow meant we were denied the forecasted slick water, but the fish cooperated and we had a blast.  Yaad's on a fishing marathon lately - trying to go every day if he can!  Ah, youth...  Bryan got in some hot water with the family for bringing home too much fish last week (:smt003), so he did a full day of catch and release - we all could've had easy limits of stout rockfish.  There was plenty of catching and the day-long workout culminated with cold drinks at the Tailgate Fillet Station just as planned.  The special catch of the day went to Yaad with a legal halibut in the last half hour, and right after that Bryan got the special hookup of the day when a good sized thresher grabbed his gear and went ballistic, breaking the surface three times around him before taking his leader and disappearing into the waters of the Cove.

Big thanks to Yaad for bringing Bryan into the fold and doing multiple trips since last summer.  Yaad's the only one to cash in on my AOTY Special of $40 off if you're in the competition, but we cursed ourselves by trying to get AOTY upgrades and got none!   :smt005

As much as we think about the special catches, the ones that got away and the different sea states and weather that we endure and enjoy, it continues to be a fact that every day is different out there, and the journey that we're engaged in is really about the challenges that we choose to take on and the mysteries regarding how the day will play out.  We are intent and focused on our goals, but instead of dwelling on exactly what will be caught, we aim for discovery and joy.  This is what kayak fishing is about.   :smt001

Great day at the cove, just keep on learning. Got that beautiful red, and every time I see color on a pretty verm i get so stoked. Ill be back to get a chance at a thresher soon, apparently they are in at crescent city as well. Im sure Bryan is gonna be hooked for life after that loss lol, thats how it happens!

(foggy 56 degree weather down at the cove, 10 minutes up to 87 degree sunshine, I jumped in the Eel on my way home to wake up a bit lol it was 94 in Miranda)

Great report as always! I really need to book another trip with you so I can pick your mind and learn some new tricks. Wouldn’t even be worried about catching fish with how scenic it is up there :smt001
