How to position rod holders for trolling on a hobie

This is a fun thread. It’s taken me the good part of three seasons to figure this out for myself, and you can see that everyone has gone through the iterations to figure out what works for them. I think I’m pretty happy with how things are set up for me (ymmv, as they say).

I’m on a Revo 13. Right handed, I like to have the net in my dominant hand, land the fish on my right. The net or gaff is behind my right shoulder. Everything else on the deck is on the left hand side and I try to keep the right side as clear as I can so nothing can get in the way of landing the fish.

The rod is in a yak attack omega pro rod holder with the lock n load mount (https://www.yakattack.us/omega-pro-rod-holder-with-track-mounted-locknload-mounting-system-rhm-1002/). This setup is far superior to the Ram ball mounts particularly for the rod holder because it does not slip. Adjustments are super easy as well. I then have the fish finder set up so the handle rests on it and this prevents the rod from turning and going upside down. This isn’t essential, but I like it this way.

With this setup, plenty of clearance for my feet and the peddles, good visibility of the rod tip, more in-line with the boat when trolling, and easy to attend to the rod when fish on!

This is super helpful. Im going to try and push my holder father forward and cross the boat. That seems to be a common theme. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Hopefully I get a big flatty to stress test it!!
