I love filming launches and landings. Perhaps more than fishing... That’s why I lost 2 GoPros so far. But I was intent on not loosing the 3rd!

Here’s what I learned : forget about anything that has a fixed arm. When a fixed arm hits something in the surf, the sudden force would break the joint and you would loose your camera. Specifically, in both cases the RAM ball was the weak point. It just broke. My second lesson is to attach the camera itself (or the case) to a lanyard that is connected to the kayak. This way, even if the arm breaks, the camera is not lost.

I’ve fabricated (from Scotty parts) a dual rail and I’m using it to connect to a GoPro quick connect plate that is connected to a GoPro Gooseneck (two of them; chained to get a higher position than my fishfinder screen). At the end I put a GoPro swivel to make panning easier.

This setup works great so far. It’s stable, yet highly configurable. It’s light, compact, detaches fast, and cleans easy.

If anyone has a camera setup that works, I’d love to see it. Thanks!
