It was unusually flat calm last week as I drove by all those beautiful beaches around Salmon Creek and up to Duncan Cove. The rocks offshore looked inviting. I don't remember anyone reporting fishing there and I saw no boats in the area. Why not? The beach was a little dicey, but launchable and the day was fine.  Its not an MPA.  I searched the forum and one mention of Thresher's off Duncan's Cove once. I saw some guys surf casting for perch, but no rockfish or crab fishing.  Whats the story on those beaches and rocks?  Some good reason people aren't fishing and crabbing there?

Do you have a sharkshield? :smt006
“I’m going fishing.”  They said, “we will go with you.”

I’ve fished it out of a boat before. It wasn’t very productive. I would guess that with the great weather all the bodega boats ran further, but when the weather isn’t so good it gets fished regularly.

I believe the bottom is pretty sandy around there. You might do okay for halibut? but the rockfish are going to be closer to the reefs. Even though the shore is rocky and there are a few rocks sticking out of the water doesn't mean that the bottom is rocky.

Not any real reefs around there, mostly sand. You can catch a fish or two right next to the sea stacks once in awhile. The lings I've caught there are usually on the thin side. A few nice blacks around if one is lucky enough to run across them. Scotty Creek on a nice day is a barely OK launch. Duncan's Cove involves a long stepped walkdown to the beach. Goat Rock on a flat day is also possible. There is a small reef off Salmon Creek but it might be in the MPA. Surf launch/landing from Salmon Creek might be exciting.

In that areas, you might need a birdshield too...

Confirmed.  Couple that with the heavy surf at times and access issues/humping boat up and down the hill... there's more ideal launches if you want to quickly get on RCG

All great info guys, thanks.  Let me repeat, conditions were glassy calm on this particular morning. I wouldn't try it on a regular day for sho' but hearing that hte fishing isn't that good anyway is helpful.  What about crab snares off the beach if its all sand?
