Sean,
Picts say it all.  I know you and Jr. had a great time.

BTW, I'm no Marine Biologist  :smt002 , but I think chris is holding a nice sized Bonito.

Cheers,
Stuart

Stu-thanks!  Pretty sure its a black skip jack-check it out...http://www.mexfish.com/fish/bkskip/bkskip.htm The black skippy does look like a bonito, but bonito are less tuna-like and more mackeral-ish.

Stuart,

I am a marine biologist and nope, that's a black skipjack Euthynnus lineatus.  You can tell by the black spots on the belly below the pectoral fin.  Bonito have no such spots.

Sean,
Like I said, "I'm no Marine Biologist"! :smt002

I didn't know there were 2 types of bones out here as well as this black skipjack.

The YFT was soooo good. I stuck that little bugger in the head and then slid him right into my insulated fish bag between a couple bottles of frozen water.  When I got to the beach an hour later he was nice and chilly.  Straight to the cleaning table, and then straight to the fridge.  A few hours later he was on a plate.  Once you've had just killed tuna you understand why the japanese are so intensely picky about freshness and handling, their is no substitute for what my local sushi chef calls "same day tuna".   :smt004

Great trip report Sean, you had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what the next picture was going to be. Sounds like a blast ... what a great father/son bonding experience.
