So, my wife rented us a  place for school break week south of Bodega Bay, Starting March 28, 3 days before rockfish and lingcod open.  Has anyone targeted starry flounder in that area.  Near freshwater outlets I have heard is a good place to try.  We will be near Estero Americano.  Assuming the wind and surf aren't too bad.  I could also try for surf perch from the shore.  There might be a place around the rocks in fairly shallow water where I could get rainbow perch.  I think they are in season.  I've never been to this spot.  Usually go to Timber Cove.  Maybe I could try for flounder also inside the bay.  Once the season starts, the chart shows an interesting area 70-100 ft deep about a mile offshore.  I'm going to check weather carefully before I think about trying that.  Got in trouble once a few years ago launching from Doran Beach and got caught in 35 knot winds.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Head to tomales for halibut. Who knows  you might be that lucky guy that catches the annual ghost.. halibut might be  there  in bodega. Could even drop crab traps also....surf perch Plan B sounds doable.

When you look outside the window, and all you see is fishing. True Story.

Watch out for the marine protected areas if you are fishing near bodega head: https://cdfw.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c00c82e1f32a49e99c747e2411e3439e

Poke poling in the rocks is another option.

Good luck!

Catch some sand crabs and use a sliding sinker rig for sea perch or sand dabs.
Warning! Retiree; Knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it.
