Outboard motor manual

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a good primer on servicing an outboard? Like an How to use an Outboard for Dummies (me)? I see there are a few recommendations on Amazon, but I trust NCKA opinions more. The one I'm looking at is this one:

And I am someone who is very much NOT mechanically minded. But talk to me about communication switch network design, and I'll talk your ear off....

There should be a factory service manual for your specific make and model available from the manufacturer.  That’s really the best place to look for maintenance info and service intervals.  Then there’s YouTube, plenty of maintenance videos for most outboards out there. 

I have found Youtube videos to be the most helpful.  You can search your specific make and model.  Another thing I like about using youtube is there is usually more than one video so you can compare them for consistency.   Some even have links to order the correct part.  Good luck.

Yah specific fsm is what I would look for.

I have 40-60hp 2 stroke mercury 1997  if that’s what u have ..

Yup, Youtube is definitely a good start and as previously mentioned some of the clips have references to relevant links.

I run a 87 evenrude 2 stroke and a 1015 Honda 2.3 air cooled 4 stroke. Both motors I change out the spark plug, for the evenrude lower diff oil, and water pump every 2 years. I run till gas runs out even if I plan on using it again the next day in fresh water. If I put it away for long term storage I drain all the gas out and run till the carbs are empty. So far not have any problems on either engines yet. I am thinking for big waters attaching the 2.3 liter Honda outboard to it.
