I'm looking for a place to take my nephews fishing. I always drive past Nicasio and see people fishing but have never tried it. I imagine there must be bass and catfish. Anyone ever fish there?
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Back in the day there were a lot of bass there, it was fun.  Last couple times I went, it was dead and online reports seem to mirror that, plus the water level was/is quite low.  No boats.
I'd rather be swinging...

You mean “Tick Lake”  :smt044

Seriously every time I have fished it I have found multiple ticks crawling on me and the friends I’ve been with.

That being said there are largemouth bass and crappie in there. Never caught anything big there, but when spring rolls around the fish will be shallow and feisty as well as easy walking distance from the car.

I can second this! I always found a few whenever I fished there

Haha yeah true that I’ve had the same experience. We call it Tickasio reservoir! 😁
I’ve heard of good spawning bass bites as well as crappie and carp but no real experience myself other than the ticks.

I mostly prefer saltwater fishing so probably not the best person to ask.

Let us know if you get on the fish.

How old are your nephews?

Loch Lomond jetty with pile worms or squid can have enough big bat Ray action to keep kids interested, and they can find all kinds of crabs and such on the rocks

They’ve been stocking Bon Tempe, good chance for a trout... :smt006
“I’m going fishing.”  They said, “we will go with you.”

My 7-year-old daughter wanted to go fishing and Nicasio is the closest "real" body of water. I don't know much about freshwater fishing, but we walked down to the water, she cast out a wacky senko, and immediately caught a foot-long bass. We stayed another hour and didn't get anything else but ticks.

Eddie, any tips for BT trout? When I lived in Bishop everyone seemed to use orange powerbait for the stocker trout in lakes, and always out-fished us city slickers with our flies and tapers and tippets and whatnot.

Tiny trebles and I like that rainbow glitter power bait, mice tails by gulp seem to produce as well, typical morning or evening bite, leader length on 1/2oz. Carolina rig 2-3ft, good times...I’ve inflated night crawler with a syringe hoping for a monster holdover. :smt006

Old enough to have fun with that. Yeah, I'll think about that.

I take my kids down to the pier at ft baker, we toss a sabikis underneath the inside of the L and pull up as many perch as we can. Most are tiny, but the action is fast and the kids love the action. Just my two cents.

As a kid, used to fish Nicasio quite a bit for catfish....they have some huge cats in there (Blue and Channel)...we used live crawdads and cut bluegill for bait. Would fish for bass while waiting for catfish to bite...never caught a ton of bass, but always hooked a few every trip.
