I currently wear Keens but I'd like to try something new. I like shorter then 8", light hiking, Goretex liner.

Check out Meindl boots. They have all different flavors including wide sizes.

Most comfy boots I’ve ever owned.

I wear hiking boots for work and my latest choice is Zamberlan 996 VIOZ GTX.  Due to my wide feet, I don't have many choices.
I have been wearing them for over a year and they are very comfortable.  Zamberlan brand makes high price boots but my daily use, it was worth the investment.

My wife and I are both wearing Oboz brand day hikers these days.  https://obozfootwear.com/

They've taken a good beating while remaining comfy and they're not backpacker light, but decently lightweight.

I own 3 pairs of Salomon shoes/boots.  They are light weight and durable.  Available in low, med, and high depending on your preference and activity.

I think boots are highly subjective and you basically find one that works for you, and that's that.

But I'm with BsHawk; I randomly ordered a set of Salomon Conquest GTX from Amazon many years ago and they just happened to fit like a match made in heaven.  They had good traction, broke in quickly, and fit my feet perfectly (I'd say I had a medium wide foot, nothing weird).  I still have that original pair, they're still functioning after 1000 miles or so, although well worn.  I re-waterproof them every year.  Unless I get water down my leg, they still keep my feet dry and warm even in the snow.  I got a new pair awhile back and I keep those out of the saltwater and just for backpacking.

It's always a bit tough since something can feel great at first but break in meh, or feel like crap at first and turn into the best shoe ever.  For me, the Salomon Conquest GTX were comfy from the very start and simply got more so as they broke in.
I'd rather be swinging...

Thanks for the input. I'll check all these out and chime back with what I ended up with.

I'm still happy with my Keen soft toes and hiking every weekend. Any reason for the change away from Keens? I also wear Keen steel toes at work and the quality still seems the same fwiw. For work I get a new pair every year or two as the soles do get worn a bit.
