Hi there! I'm Joel and I live in Oakland. I just picked up a 2016 Hobie Outback with a bunch of accessories I'm anxious to try. A question I have is regarding ocean kayaking with kids. My 5 year old son I really excited about all things ocean. I'm wondering if y'all have any thoughts on taking a kid out on glassy days for crabs. Obviously saftey is paramount so the opportunities to get out on glassy days may be rare. Included with my kayak is the AMA outrigger set so I thought with a couple pots on the bow, AMA's deployed and favorable conditions it would be possible. Thoughts? Thanks!

Welcome to NCKA  Joel  :smt006  I don't see any reason for not able to take your son crabbing on a calm ocean day.  Make sure you dress him for imersion and keep an eye on him all the time.

I'm gonna dress my little guy in a well fitting PFD, rain pants and a shorty wetsuit under it all. I figure I could head out of linda mar on a calm day and drop a couple traps. He'll be stoked. Me too.
I still need to sort out my tackle to get at some rock fish. Is there a good combo that folks could recommend I keep an eye out for on black friday sales? Thanks for the welcomes!

Shimano Trevala is a very popular jigging rod.  I pair my Trevala TVC-66MH with an Avet SXJ. TackleDirect is having a 20% off sale for a few more hours (today's the last day of the sale and I don't know if it ends at 9pm since they're on the east coast).  I'm extremely happy with it.

My secondary jigging setup is an as-old-as-me Penn 10M on a 25 yr old UglyStik.
