In Humboldt Bay many years ago I was using chicken for bait, and I pulled up one of my rings with the head of a small steelhead in it.  It had basically washed into my gear with the tidal current, or it may have been dropped by a crab as it changed focus and went for my chicken.  Basically the only time I've pulled up new bait in my gear!

Swellsharks were in my rock crab pots all of October.. 2-3 at a time in Monterey. They spray water at you if you pull them out. I always just open the side and let them swim off.

I did find sheephead crab, big snails, and urchins as well.

Yesterday I found the carcass of a mola mola - I didn't put it in there so a tide or crab must have dragged it in? Must have been good as that pot was full of Dungies.

Used to catch cabezon often in the rings off the jetties at Bodega Bay in the early 80s.

Florence, Oregon I was a kid crabbing with my grandpa and my brother, we pulled up a diver who’s arm got lodged in the trap as we started to pull it. It was from the south jetty pier and unfortunately for him, the state trooper/ game warden was on site checking licenses, the guy had a bunch of small crabs in his bag so he got sighted for that and a long talking to about reaching into other peoples traps.

Actually sounds like he was lucky the trooper was there.

Empty beer can in an empty Crab pot that some skidmark left I guess he thought it was funny around 2004. Had a couple of other pots in the soup so we still did okay.when I share the story the general consensus is you're lucky they didn't take your pot also

That's hilarious! I bet you thought there were some monster crabs in that trap...
Yes we did took my brother, me , and grandpa to pull it. Everyone started booing the guy when they seen he got cot with his hand in the “cookie jar” so to speak.

But was he legal size, or did you have to throw him back?

If he was legal, could you gaff him?
