I'll be heading up to the Trinity next week after getting the all clear on the smoke front and confirmation that camp stoves are now allowed. I was up there last year during the first week of October and saw a couple fish but didn't hook up. Probably the most beautiful and enjoyable 4 day skunkfest I've ever had...Anybody have any intel or know of how the fishing is currently?

I'll be bringing both fly and spinning gear, targeting both kings and steelhead.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I haven't fished the Trinity since the 70's, between Douglas City down river. We used to drift tuna balls, salmon roe and toss spoons.
I have gotten my fair share, but that was when the salmon were so thick you can walk across them.

That place is rotten with poison oak.
Impossible to recognize w/o leaves but still potent.
Wash thoroughly when you are done fishing and good luck.

If I were planning a trip to the Trinity, I would contact Loletaeric. I first met him on the bank of the Eel back in 2010 when I was up there to try for steelhead with my pops. He gave us a lot of info (we were clueless when it comes to steelies) which made for a fun weekend. I know he does drift trips too in case booking a guide has any appeal. We fished the Trinity River up near the Reservation which may or may not be a great plan since it’s fairly remote, it was stunning though!

Which part of the river?

There are definitely fish throughout the system.

This was in the lower river by willow creek last week.
Also missed a tug On the swing  and a fish On the nymph. Hooked a couple of half pounders as well.
Hire a guide for one day really helps on that river. Lewiston fly shop (Kit) for the upper or lower River, or someone from The Fly Shop for the upper River. Jason Hartwick for the lower if you do the spey thing.

I’ll be near Junction City. Cheap campsite and some gear pretty much maxed out the budget for this trip but from what I’m hearing it’s been better than it was last year in the same area.
Thanks for the recs
