I, too, am a convert. I finally put away the bulky waterproof housing and bought an Optio W30. Although it doesn't have a view finder, the LCD screen is huge and is easily seen on the water. I bought mine as a package through ebay.com--camera, skin, extra battery, 1 GB memory card, tripod, 2-year extended warranty--all for under $300.

Thanks for the neoprene cup holder tip. :smt002 I wondered how I was going to protect the lens.

Good to hear all the optio news. Have one arriving this week. Didn't get quite the deal Big J got  :smt011. Mooch, does the key fob alone keep the camera afloat ?

Just curious, where does everyone store their camera? You want to have it handy but don't wanna damage it either.

Z,

I keep mine in a neoprene beer coaster - the optio fits in perfectly - together with a key chain float....which goes inside my PFD pocket  :smt002

If you want a beer coaster, send me your address and I'll mail you one.

I'll post some pics later....

Thanks Mooch. :thumright: I PM'd ya my address.

I have a Pentax Optio W30 and an Olympus 720SW.  They are both good for kayaking, but I give the edge to the Olympus because of the lens cover and its shock rating.

Thanks for all the great help . I went with a housing for my present olympus.  It looks ok as far as size. I also will be considering my other options if the time comes.

Thanks  Sherm

The great thing about that housing is that you can take it down to depth. A friend has that and regularly snorkels and always comes back w/ great photos. Good choice! :smt002
