Getting ready for crab season. Looking for some ideas on how you all secure your traps for launching and landing.  I tried to search but apparently didn’t use the right words to find anything useful.  Any pics of your setups would be helpful. ( I have a Hobie and an eddy line Caribbean) that we will be taking out.

A good old fashioned piece of pvc pipe through the traps and into the scupper hole in the tank well is my go to. Duck tape it a couple inches from the bottom so it doesn't fall all the way through the scupper. I don't do any surf launches with traps on my kayak but I think this could work as long as you don't flip it. My main concern is just traps sliding off the back of my kayak while on the water.

I bought all new traps this year. I was rocking the old Promar folding traps and upgraded to the Danielson knock off that Promar makes. New buoys and rope. Can't wait to go nail some dungies.

Good luck and hope to see you on the water on the opener.

Try search for "crabfest" .  There're tons of pictures from past crabfests.

I just use bungees from the deck lines.

since you just got new stuff, there's a new reg for a trailing smaller red marker buoy no more than 3 feet from the float buoy to designate it as a crab trap ( as opposed to a hoop net )

I believe they're trying to get a grasp on how many traps stay in the ocean for how long, and marking them different than hoop nets.  I assume to take offending hoop nets out of the water ( after 2 hours they are deemed abandoned ) .

Thank you for the heads up. You mean something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Tek-F-5R-Plastic-Rope-Float/dp/B072MFVHV7/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=red+crab+buoy&qid=1601347000&sr=8-8

check the new regs, someone linked them on the forum yesterday titled new regs coming for crab or something similar, but I think that's exactly the correct size.
