Finally, my first striper!  a small one I know, it rod-taped at 17 inches, but I am still happy...

Matt, I and his 9 year old son put in at about 7:30, while we were loading, a guy and his adult age sons were putting in on jonboats and told of a 35# fish being caught at the pumps the week before...

the paddle upstream was a long one as Isaac had forgotten how to paddle in the last two weeks  :smt012 , but eventually we made it above the fast water and decided to camp below some overhanging trees.  we were using threaded anchovies with slip weights and big circle hooks.  after soaking the first bait for about 15 minutes and finding it eaten by crawdads when I did a bait check, I tossed out a fresh 'chovie and waited some more.  after about 5 min I felt the bait ticking, so I put the reel in freespool and let it take off for about 15 seconds.

As soon as I locked the reel, it took off and I had to crank down on the drag a bit more to gain line.  I rather rapidly got him to the yak, unhooked and released him with a quick pic for the ATOY :)

Isaac was up next and soon had something on his line.  It wasn't very responsive, but kept a good bend in the rod the whole time.  when he finally got it to the boat, it was a BIG turtle.  the shell was about 20% bigger than a dinner plate and the hook came out easy, bet then fell across its leg...try as we might, we couldn't get the turtles leg far enough out to remove the hook, which had not penetrated, but was simply hanging like a bracelet...so we cut the line and let him go...

on the last soak, I had another pick up and rapidly landed a 12 inch striper just before dark.

the new boat was great, I'll put more info about that in the review post...

Yakuza, thanks, I wish I could say I had it wired!  there are some quiet guys on here that know it much better than I, Alfredo being one...

I'm afraid I cant help with the Sac launch site...I just moved up here a few months ago and haven't gotten out on the Sac yet.  It looks like your links go to some good info on it, it should be easy to find.  When you're in town shoot me a PM and we'll hook up if I am available.

Danglin,  I heard that there are a few up at the dam, but thats all so far.  I'm keeping my eyes peeled tho, and I think I have a good spot specked out that gets less pressure than the bank access points...  just gotta be patient...and buy some big quickfish  :smt002
