Is anyone out there targeting salmon in the delta or lower Sac? I know the boaters hit up Rio Vista, Iselton, Walnut Grove, and beyond, but have not heard anyone on this board chasing them in yaks. There are few decent launches and it’s that time of year when they are moving through. Would love to meet up with someone else going for Kings in that area.

I would also be interested in the lower or upper Sac and Feather River if anyone wants to start planning a meet up.

It’s very slow right now on the lower sac. I’d avoid this Labor Day weekend as it’ll be a cluster of boaters from rio vista to Sac.

What's the choice of set-up people be using?

I’ll probably check out Benicia this weekend. I usually go to Glen Cove or first street, just have to steer clear of all of the bankers to keep the peace. A three way bounce ball rig with a spinner is a good option, a Banana weight and spinner would do the trick as well. Flash optional depending on the bite.

IMO Rio Vista is a bit more fun since it’s less of a combat scene than Benicia. The fish caught there tend to be bigger too in my experience. I launch at Sandy beach ramp and like the channel side of the River between sandy and the coast guard pier.

Think I’m going to try a set up my dad does very well with from his power boat. Oversized green dodger with a 4’ leader to a brads cut plug. He fishes his with a lead release as well as some type of release to lessen the drag from the dodger once hooked up. I can post some pics of the various setups once I consult with the old man and get another look at his rig.

I've seen how it gets in Benicia, quite crazy. But id be down for Rio Vista. Only 25min. Drive for me. Of course some pics of set-up would be awesome.

Eddie is a good resource. I’ve seen him out there in Benicia more than once, and I’m pretty sure he is tight with the Benicia locals, good source of current information. I’d bet he will be posting in this topic soon enough.

I saw this video recently of the boat guys lazily drifting and jigging for kings in the lower Sac, and thought it would be easily transferable to kayak fishing:

Many of the local guys are also casting large spinners such as flying Cs or large blue foxes. Would also be transferable to a kayak.

Agree with what was said previously about a 3-way rig and cut plug. IÂ’d heard this is effective in Rio Vista.

Gonna wait for the holidays crazies and heat to clear out, and will give it a go in the next week or two.
