Hi guys,
I am looking into getting a 13-14 Subaru Outback, possibly a 2015 model if I could find one good deal.

I am curious to know how you cartop heavy kayak. I have a Hobie AI.
Hullavator , T-loader or ... ?
I went to Yakima and found skyline will expand the bar gap from 24” to 30”.

Looking forward to hear any tips on how you use it as fishing car.

Here is my current setup.

Look close, outbacks have racks that hold 150lbs. I use mine strait most of the time. I do work for a subaru dealer in Auburn... might be able to get you a better deal.....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Before I trailered my AI I did the roof rack routine on a 4rnr with factory racks.  Worked OK, but made sure to always use a bow and stern tie line to the the front and back bumpers or some other hold down location.  I have seen a few folks lose their load of goodies off the top.  Good luck on the search.

I cartopped my AI for a couple years before getting a trailer. Even if the rack can hold the weight, I’d be a little concerned about increased risk of rollover. I live near highway 17, and the number of upside down vehicles on that road is ridiculous.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I cartop my TI on a 2013 Outback. I drilled into the roof and mounted Yakima Landing Pads 5' apart, much better than the factory rack's fixed positioning of 30". On the back I use a Rhino Rack T-Loader. Not too difficult for me to load by myself. The AI should be even easier.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

How long are your Crossbars to fit the 2 kayaks?

It’s 58”.

T-loader is most likely what I’ll end up getting too.
I am surprised you drill into the roof. I am going to try stock bars with T-loader first.

Thule hullavator has been my go to.. I used it with the 2019 outback so an AI is featherlight compared to the awkward outback weight..

On my 2013 & 2019 Subaru Outback, I used to use a Yakima Showboat and recently updated to Thule Hullavator to carry our Hobie Oasises.
Hullavator set is much more expensive but it makes loading and unloading much easier for me.
The first two photos are showing Showboat and the next two are Hulluvator photos.
