Fall Halibut

How deep? I have been catching them all year from 45-60ft. The last two trips its only been sharks. I have noticed some guys landing fish deeper. Do the fish move a little deeper in fall and then obviously winter? I was planning to go troll 80ft this weekend and see what happens.

I usually go deeper with heat and start coming back shallower in fall. Ive been fishing 25-35 feet most recently.

I've been no joy for Hali since 13 Aug. That was in 100 FT of water in off of the Portola Hotel.

Commercial guys were still working the 70' zone last Tuesday but I didn't see any hali come up only lings (they move in close for the winter)

I'm planning to see if I can find any this weekend but with the amount of jellies in the water here I don't know if that is even going to be possible.

I saw some jumping (which I had never seen before) less than 100 yards off New Brighton last Friday while shore fishing.  I'm guessing it was closer to 70 yards.  I guess they could have been anything flat (skates? do they jump?) as I didn't get a great look, but my impression was halibut.  So if my impression was right there are still some in pretty close in pretty shallow water in the northern part of the bay.

In the Santa Cruz area, I've been fishing a little deeper recently, like mostly 60-65 (just because I like to be different). No success though, so my guess is that they are probably still relatively shallow around there. Either that, or Bushy caught them all already...
