Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before but after searching through here I couldn't find anything that seemed to answer this or if I'm over-thinking this to begin with. I have a Nissan Frontier king cab pickup and recently got a good deal on some Thule roof racks which I installed on my roof. Before I go out and buy kayak holder additions (which itself is a whole other question on what kind of support is best) to the rack, is 30" enough space between the bars to adequately support a 12' or 13' kayak? I was worried about the stability with a shorter distance between the racks. Thank you in advance for any advice.

After seeing the how I roll thread I think I have answered my own question. There are some funny setups in there! :smt005

If you're willing to drill into the roof of your car, the Landing Pad 6 from Yakima lets you space them as far apart as you can. I did this on my Subaru Outback and now the TI balances much better.

My bars went from 30" to 60" apart.

Thank you. I appreciate the tip. I installed Thule rapid traverse feet with the Nissan Frontier fit kit and wing evo bars. Not sure how many other people here have frontiers but it is incredibly hard to find aftermarket stuff like racks for them. I found this set on craigslist after searching off and on for the past year or so. Just by taking a look at other set ups, I think I'll be alright. I'll make sure to add some tie downs to the front and rear as well. If anybody has any opinions on how their Thule kayak racks work I'm all ears. Trying to decide whether I want j-hook style or upright style kayak racks.
