I'm still hoping to find another fisherman for Stillwater Cove 8/24, 8/25 or even 8/26. The forecast is promising and while I'm used to fishing solo the stairs to the beach looks like a two man job.

I'm a somewhat experienced kayak angler who is new to the area, so I'm still learning the ropes. I've fished Monterey 3 times but after catching rockfish and lings from my friend's boat off of Pebble Beach that's an area I'd like to target from the 'yak. I checked out the launch area and it looks optimal except for the steep 90 degree turn at the bottom of the stairs.... I have visions of being exhausted and stranded there.

So let me know if you want to fish Stillwater Monday, Tuesday or even Wednesday.

I'm using a peddle Hobie Revo13 with Wheeleeze.

I can get my Outback up and down the stairs easily by myself using a Hobie cart with the big beach wheels. Smaller wheels or a strap on cart might make it more difficult. The stairs are very wide so the turn at the bottom is not a problem. The last step is about 2 feet so I turn my kayak left so the cart is on the bottom 2 stairs and then put bow of my kayak down onto the sand and then move the stern off the stairs. Going up I do the reverse. To get up the stairs I do what Fuzzy Tom suggested and go at an angle so only one wheel goes up at a time. The steps aren't that tall so its not too hard to get the wheels up. You do have to mind the tide. At about 5ft the water is up to the stairs so I put my wheels on on the beach and roll it through the water to the stairs. If it's higher than that it may be difficult. You could just float the kayak onto the stairs but I could see it getting banged up by the surf if your timing is off. You can always empty your kayak to make it lighter. With a revo I think you would be OK assuming you are of average strength. For reference, I have some back and shoulder problems so I'm not pulling with Herculean effort.

It will probably still be pretty smoky next week so there might not be anyone else out there. You will probably get more takers for your hookup when the smoke and fires clear.

I've been yak fishing now for about a year mostly from the high sierra mountains. Fishing the coast is something that I want to start doing. I have all the necessary safety equipment. If you're going on Monday, I would like to join you.
I'm using a PA 14

Thanks for the detailed info. I didn't realize the stairs was under water at high tide. But the fact that you can manage without Herculean effort is encouraging. I have the bigger size Hobie wheels.... Maybe I'll give it a shot at some point.

Yes, the smoke and ash has been ugly, to say nothing of all the evacuations. Today was the first day in a week I haven't seen a lot of ash. Foggy today.

Thanks for the very specific advice on how to launch at Stillwater. The short report is that I hooked up with John from Sacramento (long drive!) on Monday, and we each got a nice Ling plus assorted rock fish. And yes, launching there solo is doable for me with some effort using large wheels.

Thanks again to John for joining me with his tricked out Pro Angler..... I posted more detail on the other board.
