Not sure on kayak specific, but the state record taken spearfishing is something around 80lbs I believe.
I've seen a few over 50# taken on powerboats at the Channel Islands.

FWIW, my PB is a baby 30" Hali.
50# Crazy!

Does anyone remember the size of the fish that Bigfoot caught at Shelter? or the size of the one Darius got a couple years later?

Those were massive!

Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3

I've heard stories of 50#+ halis being speared in Tomales back in the day.  Not sure if anyone lets them get that big in there anymore though.

I wanna say Randall's was about 50#, and I think Darius' fish was maybe 35-40#? Those were Pacific Halibut.

Looks like the current record is 72lbs 8 oz for cali halis

I’ve caught 2 39” and 1 40”. They all weighed within a couple lbs of 30lbs.

The last 33” I got was 17lbs and the last 30” Was 12lbs IIRC.

Weight increases greatly with length. Generally the bigger fish are female and they can be carrying a lot of roe.

They grow much much larger down south than they do around here.

I’ve caught a couple of good sized ones. The longest was 46” while the heaviest was only 44.5”, but it weighed 38.5 pounds. My goal is a 50” fish. I’m sure there are some that size around.
