Since I no longer have a kayak (looking into getting a hobie very soon), I sometimes take a party boat *shudder* out of Monterey about once a month.

Last trip to point sur a few days ago, I used a trap rig with whole herring and didn't catch much of anything. After a while I switched to a nomad glow flat fall and started catching a lot of fish including some huge ones including some pretty good size vermillions. The ticket was in letting the jig fall on in its own erratic way which was super effective. I even caught several yelloweyes also that I released right away. One of them was likely a record size since it was clearly about 3 feet long and the biggest rockfish I've ever seen. It was so long and deformed looking and likely was a 100 year old fish. No pics since I was trying to get the fish down as quickly.

That flat fall including the Saltiga sk zebra jig are the ones that I've had the best luck with.

I do occasionally, but then I get real sad every time I lose one since they are not cheap!

The grade of fish definitely seems to be better, and you never have to worry about the tail of your swimbait getting chewed off or your bait being stolen.

I saw some lead flat falls that are unpainted on ebay for like 10 for $40 + shipping. It might just be cost effective to buy those and have them painted.
