Am trying to get away to Lexington Sat AM. Was wondering if anyone here has been there recently - ie how low is the water?  I tried calling their main # but it's just a recording.

Thanks

I was there 2 weeks ago and it's definately getting down there... I don't have a way to quantitatively describe it, but it's probably ~25 feet below what it was a few months ago... I didn't get on the water until the crack of 9:30am, but I still managed to horse a couple 1.5-2# LMB's from about 15-20 feet, fishing a 5" watermelon Senko (wacky style!) and a 4" olive tube worm, casting against the steep cliffs that drop into the water in the side channels and letting the bait fall and bump against the rocks...

I'd meet ya there, but I'm taking a 3-day class this weekend near Sacramento to become a certified big game measurer for the Pope & Young club (bowhunting organization).

Thanks for the great info Backcountry

Wow, 25' lower huh.   Well maybe I'll go check it out anyway
(forgot to mention I'm not planning on fishing, just paddlin')
I'm going to be down in South bay Sat AM and Lexington is always one of my favorites.

Too bad Calero has all the power-boat traffic. I might research other alternatives around there.
I'm just looking for flat water with minimal noise/activity and this is my quiet/get-away time to myself.

If you want to paddle a reservoir that is near full and still very scenic, hit Loch Lomand... last month at the fishing derby it was still full!  Have fun!

I agree! Loch is a great place to paddle. You can stop by on one of the islands and do a little BBQ  :smt002

Oh right -  I had forgotten about this place. Sounds nice!
Mooch you had suggested it to me I think recently.

I have never been there. About how long does it take to drive there from Lexington?

Thanks

About another 45 minutes over the hill from Lexington... well worth it... definately a gem compared to Lexington.

Justyakit - good luck with the waf account  :smt002

As for me, I'm gonna either go for Loch Lomond or possibly Coyote Lake near Gilroy
I was chatting with the ranger at Calero on the phone (fellow kayaker!) and he highly recommends it now that power boating is banned there?

Weather sure looks nice tomorrow, woohoo!

Change of plans for me... I own a small geophysics company and yesterday's job ran into today, so I wasn't able to travel to Sac and attend that class... thus the rest of my weekend is free... strongly considering hitting Loch Lomand on Sat. or Sunday morning...

Researcher, do you know where you're going yet and do you have a VHF?  I'd be open to checking out Calero too as I've never been there...

Calero...you want to get there early.  I forget what the Max. for the boats are.  But, if you get there late...it might be hours before you launch.  You may get a few hours before the powerboats take over. And, yes Yaks are boats.  There is a old oak tree on the far shore across from the ramp that always holds bass even in low water years.

Good thing is Coyote is less than 30 mins to get there.

Backcountry...

It turns out I need to swing by my parents house and setup their new scanner in the morning first.  So I prolly won't get onto the lake (Coyote) until 12:30 at the earliest

I don't have a radio sorry, but I'll be in a blue Ocean Kayak Caper. My paddle has white blades and I wear a blue PFD. (no fishing equipment yet, just paddlin')  If you see me out there say hello. I'm just out there to get my dad to do his walking/exercise, and for me to de-stress from this past week  :smt004
