greetings NCKA people

my name is paul, and i am a new sand crab level kayak fisher.

background info
i grew up here in berkeley, and while i dont live here full time, these days im am essentially living at home helping elderly parents.  for many years ive lived in south korean and am fortunate to come back to the bay area on regular vacations.  in the last 4 years, ive gotten back in to fishing, prompted by jet lag induced, 2AM wake ups.  ive reconnected with the childhood fishing i did many years ago in the surf, but prepandemic traffic kept me away from the pacific coast.  i moved onto striper and halibut fishing from the east bay shoreline: some spots are only good outgoing tide, others incoming, some top of the tide and still others at the bottom.  im an unashamed bait eater.  having been well koreanized, i enjoy, anchovies, squid, mackerel, sardines, etc. ㅋㅋㅋ

kayak info
i recently bought a nice 14' kayak, and im revved up to go fishing.  i have a lot of the basic gear so far like PFD, kayak cart, VHF radio, etc.  im glad im a confident swimmer, but i did some training many years ago that taught me great respect for the power of moving water.  that experience has me thinking about self rescue practice and connecting with local people here in berkeley, or close by, that i can learn the ins and outs of kayak fishing with.  im dying to get out on the water and connect with a halibut!

Hey Paul, welcome to NCKA, I grew up around Berkeley as well. I regularly launch out from Richmond for halibut usually Fridays, or Saturdays. Let me know if you are going out there sometime and can show you the area and my preferred methods.
