Salmon fishing day 2 of 3. After fishing HMB yesterday and getting skunked I decided to check the action I heard that was happening at Muir. It was a day of firsts. First beach launch and first time catching an ocean salmon from a kayak (my 4th salmon of the season).

Started off trolling a hoochie with a deep 6 (rated for 40 feet). No action on the hoochie switched over to a crooked anchovy. After haveing trilled almost all the way to Stinson I decided to work the brown water just south of there. Nets everywhere. Switched to a white apex. Hooked up a nice on in 10 minutes. Lost him under the yak. Thr apex line sapped. Lesson learned I’m upgrading the apex line from now on. Switched to cotton candy apex and was on in 10 minutes tops. Could not get the fish to thr net and I ended up dropping the net in the water. After fighting him for 6 or 7 minutes and tiring him out I got him to boat, did a proper ID and landed him by hand. Weather permitting I’ll be back again tomorrow.

Nice job. When did the gates at Muir open?
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Good to know! I've crabbed out there for years but never thought about looking for salmon.

Good meeting you on your second beach landing and congrats on the first salmon. Definitely not easy, had my first salmon to the boat too and lost it before I could pull the net, I think the line went slack for the second it took me to realize...catching them isn't the only hard part! :smt013
