Went Holoholo style this morning
For those who might not know, in Hawaiian tradition (I’m not Hawaiian) if you tell your family and friends that you’re going fishing, the pukas and lava tubes leading to the ocean carry your vocal intentions to the fish. They know. They don’t bite.
I tried today imploring this way of going about my business.
I caught a fish on every squid I put down, one small Black Rockfish and the rest cookie cutter kingfish.
The wind was against me going out and against me coming in.
Saw Bushy on the beach and NowhereMan OTW.
Had an AWESOME paddle!!

I realized after chatting you were thinking I was going yak fishing.  Actually I hit the beach with surfcasting clients.  It was good by the lighthouse/jetty just two days a go.  today sucked.  And the wind!  It went from east to North to East, southeast WEst Northwest, all stiff.  I was done by 10am.  thinking Johnny Ab out there trying to set up a drift with the wind blowing curent running, then the wind switching.  Knda crazy.  Just more investment added to your future fish fund!  Beautiful Boat BTW!

Nice to finally meet you OTW.

That wind was frickin weird. Predictions were for 15-20 knots from the west, kicking up sometime between about 10am and noon (depending which forecast you wanted to believe). So, I launched my AI before 6:00am and headed to the west side, figuring the wind would would be great for sailing back to the harbor. But about 9:00, the crazy wind started blowing out of the east with some serious force. Not wanting to end up at 4 mile beach, I fought my way back towards the harbor, and was ready to call it a day.

Surprisingly, things then calmed down, so I trolled out towards the mile buoy and a ways east. Eventually, as predicted, the wind started howling from the west, and it was a fast, but very bumpy, sail back to the harbor.

That’s the first time I can remember being beat up by wind waves twice in the same day...

The fishing really seemed to turn on just before the second blowout. I got a bunch of rockfish then (all released, as I was on a ‘butt quest) and another guy on an AI hooked a nice halibut, but didn’t have a big enough net, so he lost it at the boat.

Dang...wind lessons of strange...uh oh the "not big enough net sadness," or the wish I gaffed like Nowhereman tape playin' in the head for a few weeks...hate that wind love that breeze... :smt006

Every time I see newbs out with the green k-mart net that looks almost big enough for a basketball, I have to stop myself from approaching them and immediately preaching the way...

It's amazing how many people set themselves up to lose a lifetime fish.

Photo looks right side up to me, J.  Way to survive the wind.

It never seems to look as bumpy in the video as in real life, but anyways here's part of the ride back to the harbor on the AI...
