A day late but pics nonetheless.
The pic of the water to show how calm it was.
I got to work today but wish I was casting into the surf.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Look how deep bodied those salty stripers are compared to there freshwater brothers! :smt001 I guess the chow is alot better out there, although running from seals and sharks probably isn't to much fun. :smt044

:smt007 Juan is the type of fisherman that goes "catching" instead of "fishing" no matter where he fishes.....I hate him  :smt002 :smt008

Juan, go back to Willits and stop pestering our ocean stripers  :smt003 (or at least call me when your on 'em :smt002)

Tell me about it Z.......I've been fishing for 39 years and I still have yet to catch a surf striper :smt011 Maybe I should use illegally transported live bait and maybe my luck will change  :smt002

thanks for the report,

hit the surf on the way to work, got a striper on the surface.  Today, gonna try on the way home.  Now I remember why I live on the coast!

were you mostly at the main manresa beach, or the primative camp manresa?

Adam, I'm still teaching in Mendo county. My son lives in Santa Cruz and I was visiting. Plus, I grew up there.
Zeelander, landing a striper in the surf is easy once he's hooked. Just surf him in with the wave's help. Big ones can surprise you though. I also keep my drag very tight for a good hookset on the strike then back off as needed after evaluating the size and power of the fish. This mostly happens in a matter of seconds.
Joel, forget live bait and just fish and cast as many times as you can while you're there. I'm going back, and I'll let you know. Good conditions help. I get out 2 casts and retrieves a minute. Fish, fish, fish!
e2g, I was just south of the Manresa parking lot with all the surfers. There's a different parking spot, no pay, and a set of stairs leading down to the water. Right there in front of the houses is good, though I like to walk south, from hole to hole. Night time is good in front of these houses as they keep a huge light on that just lights things up. Sunset Beach is worth a look too. Good holes and troughs, dependant on tide.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Joel,

I think everyone know you have only been fishing for a few years.  Probably, less than ten?  Right.  You told me the first trout you caught was on a Sibiki "live bait" 5 hook set-up at Lake Merced.  Also, that until you got your Yaks (maybe, been 5 yrs).  You really had not fish ever since you were a kid.
