I'm headed up to lake Pillsbury in Mendocino national Forest this weekend and was wondering if any of y'all had any experience there. Any tips on lures/bait for trout and bass? I'd like to target some trout more than bass but I'll take what I can get. Thanks!

I don't have any tips as I haven't been up there in years. I think it's the road I didn't like when I last went, though I've been thinking of going back. I look forward to your report.
I do remember catching many pike minnows and having the lake all to myself, early spring.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

The road has been grated and repaired since then and is bumpy, but much better now.  I actually drove my 24' Sprinter RV up there last summer and it was a piece of cake.  Pillsbury is your typical bass plug and trout trolling lake.  Use your depth finder to find where the trout are hanging (usually 30'-60' there) and troll around while watching the bald eagles and hawks dive bomb fish around you.  Squaw fish are abundant there.  They are invasive, so bash 'em on the head and toss them overboard.  Then crack a beer and wait for a badass bald eagle to swoop it on it.  Its a great show.  Love that lake!

And bring your guns!  You can target practice right there are the airstrip.

Thanks for the tips, and the comment about the road, is it any wider than it used to be, or is it still pretty much a one car road?

Have some friends who used to go up there a lot and they loved it.
