Has anyone ever tried this?

I'm thinking about trying it out with a 2.3hp motor.

When you look outside the window, and all you see is fishing. True Story.

Works great! H type bracket setup with motor plate. depending on kayak, you can tie down on the gear tracks. Waves can be a problem though. Tear outs and strait up catastrophic failure can happen in a heartbeat....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Amazing what a little craftsmanship and ingenuity will get you.  Paddle, pedal, electric motor, outboard engine......  so many choices  :smt005

Long time listener, first time caller.

I don’t own a kayak yet, but this reminds me of having an outback / revo and adding on the xbar/aka/ama +\- outboard motor.
I was thinking about the setup but haven’t pulled the trigger.

The AI / TI would be too long for my garage.

Good luck !

Add a sail, put a seat in the middle, rig a bracket for a mirage drive, and you'll have a DIY AI...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Thanks all for the feedback :smt006

FWIW i'm just brainstorming ideas that might help a friend get to some fishing grounds and possibly troll for hours on end. They own an old town kayak without a pedal drive which helped make an enjoyable rock fish fishing trip, but salmon may be too difficult.  I may look into the option of a side rigger thing with an outboard mount mount for them instead.

I am really enjoying all of the possibilities kayaks have.  Thanks again! Tight lines  :fish

I’ve got a pontoon I fabricated with layers of XPS foam I had intended to glass and fix to an older model Hobie. The project got scrapped, but the pontoon remains. All yours if you or your friend would find it useful.
It’s approx 8’ long
