I’ve used J hooks to transport my Tarpon 120 for years. I’m replacing it with a new Radar 115. I loaded it onto the j hooks to bring it home yesterday and it doesn’t seem to fit very well. If I lean the bottom of the kayak against the upright bar the edge of the kayak sits on the pointy end of the J instead of being cradled in the curve of the hook. I can get it into the base a little better by adjusting it to a more vertical position. Then it doesn’t rest against the padded upper bar. I need to be able to transport one kayak on edge so I can fit two kayaks in my truck. The J hooks I’ve seen online are not rated for these new larger kayaks. Does anyone know of a rack designed to transport the newer bigger kayaks on edge?

I don’t understand. Wider bars to allow both to rest on their bottom? I currently carry both in the bed of my truck so I put one flat and one on edge so they fit between the wheel wells.

Wider bars allow both to rest on the gunwales. Most lumber racks aren’t wide enough for to yaks unless they’re narrow. I’m fixing to build a custom rack over a ridged bed cover on a 2020 Tacoma. The cross bars will be wider then the truck.
